ABOUT THE CUSTOMER
ABOUT THE CUSTOMER
Cassantec is an independent provider of next-generation predictive offerings for critically important units of manufacturing businesses based on unique protected/certified algorithms.
In 2019 Cassantec was acquired by ABB Ltd. (Swedish–Swiss multinational corporation, ~150 000 employees, ranked 341st in the Fortune Global 500 list of 2018 and has been a global Fortune 500 company for 24 years). Cassantec had been the part of ABB Power Grids unit. In July 2020 ABB Power Grids was acquired by Hitachi Ltd. as part of an $8B contract. According to this contract Hitachi Ltd. got the ABB’s Asset Performance Management (APM) solution (that had been enriched with Cassantec solution before).
CHALLENGES
Data processing and analytics automation
Information about business equipment conditions, malfunctions
and wastage as well as possible actions had been collected in the form of a variety of complex Excel files. The ordinary employees
and the experts weren’t able to process and analyze this data.

Solution

Thanks to the developers from the ISS Art team, the existing mathematical models and algorithms of Cassantek have been significantly optimized for more efficient processing and analysis of current and historical data on the state of the equipment and the production process. Cassantec mathematical model had the following data in input:
  • Equipment conditions markers
  • Manufacturing process markers
  • Empirical data
  • Equipment specifications provided by the Customer
As the output we got Reliability reports and the Readiness forecasts.
The prognostic strength has been confirmed by retrospective analysis. A statistical calculation of confidence in the prognosis – is greater the more data we have and the larger the fleet of assets.

Looking back, we can say that thanks to the successful work done by ISS Art engineers, 99% of predictable faults were accurately predicted with a horizon of up to 5 years (!).

Hitachi Ltd. was one of the biggest Cassantec clients (before acquisition) and used Cassantec
solutions in its units.
Solution performance optimization
The solution collected and processed large amounts of data that resulted in the problem with the performance, such as slow reports generation and so on.

Solution

ISS developers optimized the frontend and to speed up the backend some calculations came to be performed in the background (so called pre-computing calculations).

FUTURE PLANS
Cassantec planned to upgrade its prognostic solution for vehicles such as cars, trucks and motorcycles. Data should come from a dongle in the vehicle’s OBD-II port.
As far as the Cassantec solution is now part of the Asset Performance Management (APM) solution owned by Hitachi Ltd. we don't hold information about the plans of updating this solution in the future.
The high level of professionalism of the ISS Art developers allowed the customer to create a truly unique prognostic solution. This development was also highly appreciated by one of the key customers using this solution - Hitachi LTD, who acquired full rights to it.
